A travel trailer hooks to a bumper-pull hitch. That is the entire pitch, and it is a good one. You drop camp, unhook, and still have the truck for a grocery run in Las Cruces or a boat ramp at Caballo.

Choose a travel trailer if you:

  • Tow with a half-ton or mid-size (always confirm payload, not just “tow rating”)
  • Want the lowest payment and the widest used selection
  • Camp weekends more than months at a time
  • Need bunks without going 40 feet

Fifth Wheels: Residential Living If You Already Have the Truck

Choose a fifth wheel if you:

  • Own (or will buy) a 3/4-ton or 1-ton with the right bed and hitch
  • Want height, storage, and a separate bedroom
  • Snowbird, hunt camp, or spend weeks at a time in one place
  • Prefer a quieter tow than a bumper-pull of the same square footage

Watch-outs: you cannot unhook and keep a second daily driver unless you brought one. Height hits low canopies. Payload in the truck bed still matters — fifth-wheel pin weight is not free.

Motorhomes: Drive, Camp, Repeat — No Hitch Required

A motorhome is the RV when you do not want a tow vehicle in the deal at all. Class C coaches (cab-over bunk, van or truck chassis) are the practical entry. Diesel pushers are the long-haul, generator-and-basement version of the same idea.

Choose a motorhome if you:

  • Do not own a tow-capable truck and do not want to buy one
  • Want to pull into a site and be done
  • Travel two-up more than with a crowd of kids
  • Will toad a small car, or do not need a second vehicle at camp

Is a fifth wheel always more comfortable than a travel trailer?

Usually yes in the same length, because of the raised bedroom and flatter main floor. A well-laid-out 30' trailer can still beat a cramped fifth wheel. Sit in both on our lot.

Can I tow a travel trailer with an SUV?

Sometimes. We will not sell you past your payload. Bring door-sticker numbers, not brochure tow ratings.

Should a first-time buyer start used?

Often. A used Keystone or KZ with a pre-purchase look from our shop teaches you ownership without new-unit depreciation. Then trade up — we buy and take trades.
