In 1996, Forest River founder Peter Liegl took assets from his company Cobra Industries to begin a new venture. In the beginning, Forest River produced only tent campers, travel trailers, fifth wheels, and park models. Success led to an expanded product line, including motorhomes and later even boats with the launch of a series of pontoon models.Forest River expanded further over the years by acquiring companies like Starcraft Bus, Glaval Bus, and US Cargo and integrating them into itself before being acquired by Berkshire Hathaway in 2005.

Forest River has built upon the lessons it has learned over the years. This has resulted in a policy of master builders utilizing high-quality materials to craft better RVs.
